UK/NEPAL AIR SERVICES TALKS, LONDON

DLL 1993

24-25 NOVEMBER 1993

SUMMARY

·

The UK/Nepal Air Service talks ended successfully on 25 November with the signature of a CMU and the initialling of an ASA. Copies follow by bag.

DETAIL

2. The talks were held in a very cordial atmosphere. The ASA initialled was the text partially agreed in 1991, plus acceptable remittances and airline representation articles cleared via telegrams prior to talks and an updated customs duties article.

3. The CMU designates Royal Nepal on the Nepalese side and allows them to operate 3 services per week between the UK

and Nepal, with traffic rights between Dubai, Frankfurt Paris and points in the UK. A UK airline coming onto the route would also be able to operate 3 services per week with traffic rights between 3 intermediate points and points in Nepal.

4. The CMU additionally covers charter services and pre take-off visa/Immigration checks.

5.

The Nepalese Delegation also raised the question of traffic rights beyond the UK to North America and Canada. The UK could make no commitment that these rights could ever be granted.

6.

As requested the DOT set up meetings between RNAC and BA and an extensive programme of meetings and visits with the CAA. Unfortunately the Nepalese Delegation were disinclined to inform the DOT or the CAA about numbers, timing, transport etc until it was so late that much of the programme had to be abandoned.
