6.6. OCCUPATIONAL RADON EXPOSURE INDOORS

Preliminary data suggest that some office workers in Hong Kong may be exposed to elevated levels of radon activity concentration. ICRP recommendations no.60 address this subject explicitly. The preliminary findings need to be substantiated by a survey programme taking into account specifically workers in offices, public buildings and schools. Also underground workers, such as employees of the underground metro system, underground storage rooms, etc. should be included in a special survey programme based on experience of occasionally high radon exposures of workers in the above listed job categories (e.g. in the United Kingdom, USA and Germany) with individual dose values up to 100 mSv/yr.
