the women and Young Persons (Industry) Regulations new contains similar requirements. The register must contain the photograph, name, residential address, identity card number, date of birth, date of commencement of work in the undertaking, period of employment, intervals for meals and rest, rest days and nature of employment of all young persons employed, and such other particulars as may be prescribed in order to ensure that the provi- sions of regulations 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Regulatius prier t. 1st July 1980 (regulations 8, 9, 10, 11 and 14 of the Women and Young Funsons (Industry) Regulations since 1st July 1980) are complied with. Thru copies of the register in the pres- cribed form were attached to the repost on Convention No. 14 on Weekly Rest (Industry) for the twr-year period unding 30th June 1980.
"young person" is defined in the Employment Ordinance, as amended by the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Ordinance 1979, 23 "(a) until 31st August 1980, a person who has attained the age of 14 years but not the age of 18 years" and "(b) with effect from 1st September 1980 a person who has attained the age of 15 years but not the age of 18 years". This definition also applies to the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance.
Section 6 of the Apprenticeship Ordinance requires an employer engaging a young person in a designated trade to enter into a contract of apprenticeship with him and to register the contract with the Commissioner for Labour, unless the young person has already completed an apprenticeship in that trade, or the employer has obtained from the Commissioner an exemption to employ the young person outside the provisions of the ordinance. The contract of apprenticeship has to be in the specified form or in a form substantially similar to that prescribed and containing particulars which include the apprentice's photograph, his name, residential address, identity card number and date of birth, the period of apprenticeship, date of com- mencement of apprenticeship, the wages to be paid to the apprentice, the frequency and manner of payment of wages, the period of employment, the intervals for meals and rest and, the entitlement to leave and holidays with pay. Regulation 16(1) of the Apprenticeship Regulations requires an employer employing a registered apprentice to keep a record of particulars of the apprentice for every such, apprentice under his employ. The record must contain, among other things, the apprentice's full name and address, his identity card number, his date of birth, name and address of his guardian, if any, the date of commencement of his apprenticeship, the educa- tional standard reached at the date of commencement of his apprenticeship, the course of instruction, if any, attended under an attendance order issued by the Commissioner for Labour and the special qualification obtained, 12 any, which led to some reduction in the period of his apprenticeship. Ta addition to keeping a record, an employer is also required to prepare :
(=)
a report on the work performed by every registered Apprentice during each period of six months;
(b) a record of particulars of all overtime worked by
every registered apprentice; and
(c)
a record of particulars of all absences of every registered apprentice from work or the courses of instruction he is required to attend.
For the purposes of the Apprenticeship Ordinance, a young person is defined as a person of or over the age of 14 years and under the age of 19 years.
