The Employmcnt Ordinance applics to all cmployees in the privatc sector. According to the General Household Survey of the first quarter of 1990, it was cstimated that there were,2 400 500 cmployccs. Of these, about 188 000 wcrc civil servants who were not covered by the Employment Ordinancc. The majority of the employees in the private sector enjoyed the provisions of rest days as stipulated by the Employment. Ordinance. In general, civil scrvants also enjoyed one rest day a week.

and traic unions are represented and, through the Uniteä Kingdom, Department of Employment, to the Confcucration of British Industry and the Traces Union Congress of Great Britain. No observations regarding the application of this convention in Hong Kong have been received from any organisations of employers or workers during the period under review.
