ILO: HONG KONG

1.

The Department of Employment have been told by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) that the International Transport Workers' Federation has sent a letter (copy attached) to the ILO about allegations of post-strike victimisation in Hong Kong.

2. The ILO have asked HMG for any information they may have on this matter. I should therefore be grateful if you would seek advice from the Hong Kong authorities.

3.

It is not yet clear whether this case will be examined formally by the ILO supervisory bodies. Nor have we been asked to respond by any specific date. Nevertheless the Department of Employment consider it would be useful if the response could be made to the ILO by early September. May I therefore have your comments by 25 August?
