On behalf of the Government of the People's Republic of China, we take great honor in formally extending an invitation to hold the 1997 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (the "Organizations") in Hong Kong, to take place during September 1997. As you know, the People's Republic of China will resume the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong with effect from July 1, 1997, and thus the People's Republic of China will be in a position to serve as host country at that time.
Starting July 1, 1997, the Government of the People's Republic of China will ensure that the prompt issuance of visas, and expeditious clearance of customs, will be accorded to all Governors, Executive Directors, Alternates, members of committees, representatives, advisors to any of the foregoing persons, officers and employees of the Organizations, accredited observers, special guests, press, and any other category of participants desired by the Organizations to be present for the Meetings, as well as the accompanying family members of all the foregoing. In addition, the Government of the People's Republic of China will honor all unexpired visas issued before July 1, 1997 in connection with the 1997 Annual Meetings for entry into and
exit from long Kong.
