1997 WORLD BANK/IMF ANNUAL MEETINGS
My UK authorities are broadly content with the texts of the draft letters which you circulated at your meeting on June 28. They propose that the Hong Kong Government should send a letter supporting that from the UK conveying their support for the invitation. This suggests replacing the last sentence in the UK letter with something along the following lines:
"As you will see from their separate letter, the Hong Kong Government fully support the invitation and assure you of their fullest cooperation in the preparation and conduct of the Meetings.
In addition, my authorities suggest two minor amendments to the first sentence of the second paragraph of the UK letter:
replace "State" with "Government";
add "Government of" before "UK".
They also
suggest a
to
of minor amendments couple paragraph 1 of the letter from China for consideration by my Chinese colleagues:
replace "effective" with "with effect from";
adopt the spelling "honour".

We have separately given you the names of working level
contacts in Hong Kong and London.
