MONTREAL PROTOCOL ON SUBSTANCES THAT DEPLETE THE OZONE LAYER: AMENDMENTS AND ADJUSTMENTS

to Anguilla (not to all) summarised the

revisions to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete

the Ozone Layer following the Fourth Meeting of the Protocol

Parties in Copenhagen in November 1992. The revisions will

have to be ratified by the Parties to the Protocol and UK

intends to ratify the Amendment as soon as possible.

territory at future date. Before extending ratification to

your territory we will need to be satisfied that you are able

to implement the provisions locally. This may require new

legislation or the revision of existing legislation (eg

Customs Regulations).

Background

2. The Montreal Protocol controls the production and

consumption (defined as production plus imports, minus

exports) of ozone depleting substances. UK ratified the

original (1987) Protocol on 16 December 1988 and the 1990

London Amendment to the Protocol, which added new obligations

of a very substantial nature, on 20 December 1991. UK's
