We have had difficulty in getting hold of Lord Callaghan's office here but have now been told that Lord Callaghan is arriving in Shanghai today and will be staying there until 16 May when he will travel onto Peking (staying in the hotel Kun Lun for the nights of 16 and 17 May). Lord Callaghan can be contacted in Shanghai through Mr Hans d'Orville, co-ordinator of the Interaction Council, at the Jin Jiang Tower Hotel (fax no 8621 433 1986).

2. We have, as suggested by Lord Callaghan's office here, faxed the gist of Peking's TUR to Mr d'Orville asking him to elicit an urgent response but would be grateful if you could please check that Mr Callaghan has received the message and that a response is forthcoming. You may also need to follow up Peking telno 22 to Hong Kong.
