SUPPLEMENTARIES (Defensive)

You have previously avoided a visit to Peking saying it would not be productive, why will it be productive now?

The Governor proposed that this was the right time for me to discuss the position reached with the Chinese Foreign Minister. Since the Chinese side have agreed to a meeting, they too obviously think this is a good time to take stock.

Will you be going with revised proposals/concessions?

No. Not going to negotiate, but to establish the points of central importance to us, and the need to make faster progress.

What did OPD (K) agree? Did OPD (K) set deadlines?

Not going to go into substance of OPD (K) discussion or its conclusions. On deadlines, we have said all along that it would not be helpful to set deadlines, but that these discussions cannot go on indefinitely.
