Please refer to your minute of 30 October about the NCNA's complaint concerning a proposed visit by Gao Kong Lian of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) to Hong Kong.

2. In the event, the conference between Hong Kong and Taiwanese commercial and industrial associations on bilateral trade and economic co-operation, scheduled for 1 and 2 November in Hong Kong, never took place.

3. The SEF-ARATS talks in Xiamen were, at short notice, scheduled for the

same dates and so the Hong Kong conference was postponed and Gao did not go to Hong Kong.
