John Colvin, a former Ambassador who claims to be a friend of yours, rang today with a message about Sir

David Akers-Jones. He said that he wanted to mention to you that Eric Ho Tung, whom he would not trust an inch but who occasionally produced insights, had told that him that when Akers-Jones had worked in the New Territories prior to becoming Chief Secretary he had made a bomb on land leases. Colvin said that the Chinese would no doubt be aware of this and might have played on it encouraging Akers-Jones to become an adviser to them.
