According to a Xinhua report in CD (11 Oct), the railway service between Nanning (Guangxi) and Hanoi has been
restored.

A conference of officials from Yunnan, Sichuan,
Guizhou, Guangxi, Tibet and Chengdu and Chongqing municipalities
discussed further co-operation between these areas of south-west
China (Xinhua/CD 11 Oct).

According to the Chief of Customs in Nanning, Meng Tiancai, the Guangxi authorities have uncovered 77 smuggling
cases in the first 9 months of this year, involving goods with a
total value of Y346m. The goods included 1,154 cars and 1,565
motor-cycles. In one case in April, said to involve a Hong Kong company as well as various local mainland companies and the Qinzhou branch of the People's Bank, 798 Korean Hyundai cars,
falsely documented as from North Korea, had been intercepted
(WWP 12 Nov).
