Hong Kong Bridge
On 22 May 1993, CRC discussed the proposed Zhuhai-Hong
Kong Bridge project. Paper CRC INF 6/93 is at Annex I. On the basis of this discussion, the following line-to-take was drawn
up

"No formal proposals have been received from the Chinese authorities. If such proposals are made, we will of course study them. Such a project would have a major impact on our road system and infrastructure development. This would need to
be taken fully into account."
The CRC meeting held on 7 August 1993 agreed that the Administration should keep a watching brief on the project. However, there was no need to commit resources to studying its impact on Hong Kong at this stage.
Latest Position

On 11 October 1993, Mr Vincent Lo approached and passed
a number of documents on the project to SPEL. The English translation is at Annex II. Mr Lo also conveyed to SPEL the following message on behalf of both Zhuhai and the central
authorities -
(a) apart from being a direct link between Zhuhai and
Hong Kong, the bridge will also be a key
component in the highway
