Coordination of Air Traffic Control between Hong Kong/PRC/ Macau

Transfer of management responsibility for Kai Tak to the

PAA/AC

Due to the proximity of Shenzhen Airport and the future Macau and Chek Lap Kok Airports, there is a need to work out an agreed airspace plan for the region with the Chinese and Macanese.

It is intended to transfer the management responsibility of Kai Tak from CAD to the future AC at some stage before 1997 in order to allow the Corporation to establish a credible track record in airport management by the time the new airport at CLK opens.

Present status/progress

CAD/ESB reviewing previously agreed strategy for initiating discussions with the Chinese side.

It is proposed to transfer the responsibility of managing Kai Tak to the Authority by the issue of an aerodrome licence and the signing of a management agreement. The exact timing of the transfer will be determined when the position on the new airport project is clearer.
