5. On procedures, the following has been agreed:

Hong Kong Department's objectives. In preparing for the next TMR, your Department will consult RAD about its draft objectives (as provided in the PUS' Circular 120/90).

RAD objectives. RAD will draw on your Department's objectives, and will consult you, in drafting objectives for 1993 for Far Eastern Section, and FJPS for the following Research Officers

Attendance at meetings. A research officer will have a standing invitation to attend your departmental meetings when they occur. you will try to arrange for RAD to attend policy meetings organised by your Department, social functions for relevant visitors

etc.

Familiarisation. Newly-arrived staff in your Department, engaged in political work, and newly arrived research staff in RAD will pay an early visit to each other.

Copying correspondence, databases etc. Your Department will ensure that all relevant correspondence is copied to RAD.

Seminars, university visits. Our departments will keep each other and the Policy Planning Staff informed before attending seminars, visiting universities, or meeting academic contacts in the FCO, to identify themes of special interest, and will send each other a copy of any resulting records.

Each will

Travel. Our departments will consult each other about the timing and objectives of familiarisation/research visits abroad. ensure that the other receives a copy of any resulting reports.

Briefing. Your Department will arrange appropriate for diplomatic staff taking up an appointment in your area to visit RAD for briefing.
