CHINESE PUBLIC STATEMENTS ON HONG KONG.
©
1.
We spoke about your minute of 22 April. I am afraid that we have not kept a running note Chinese public statements on Hong Kong that might be useful to us. I now attach a first shot, drawing only on material from last month (mainly Hong Kong's telegrams of press reports). It includes the references to the telegram numbers. I will attempt to keep this more up to date, and add in anything that we get from Hong Kong as a result of your minute. might perhaps give some thought to the kid of areas you would like covered in this exercise. I appreciate this will hold good for all time as the focus of interest will inevitably shift.
2. If you think it worthwhile, I could issue this on a monthly basis. It is pretty thin at the moment, but then the Chinese are not in business of giving much away just now.
