believe most HK people realise HK needs stability. China needs stability. An unstable China means an unstable HK. Current Sino-HK ties, as many have said, have become like lips and teeth. HK's interests are China's interests.

HK'S prosperity is China's prosperity. Because after 1997, HK becomes China's Now, everybody sees this. We're not worried that situation will happen again.

A.

So from China's viewpoint, in this impasse, what. should HK people do?

I think, on this question, HK people should all be concerned, because it's HK

people's own problem,

right?

How should they maintain HK'S long-term stability and prosperity, smooth transition, pre and post 1997 convergence. On these matters, they should fully express their own views. That's most important, because, on this matter, since the SAR is yet to be set up, the Chinese Government can only go through Sino-British talks, or other channels to help Hong Kong achieve that. As for after 1997, such matters are wholly within Hong Kong's autonomy. So before 1997, based on "Hong Kong People administering Hong Kong", and "a high degree of autonomy", HK people should be concerned with their own affairs, and resolve HK problems. On the Chinese Government's

part, we share HK people's interests. We're willing to listen to all HK views.

Q.

What you've said is if Patten withdrew his package, China will not start anew. So in the next few years, will China be worried about similar circumstances?

How can China avert them?
