Miss Saig

Thank you for your letter of 19 February about your expanded coverage of China. I am drawing it to the attention of Sir Robin McLaren in Peking and other colleagues with an interest in China.

I read with interest your reporting on Far Eastern affairs in the Financial Times, and have long admired its breadth and insight. I am naturally pleased to know that you now plan to step up your coverage of developments in China. As it happens I know Tony Walker personally, since we served in Peking together in the early 1980s. I know what a good correspondent he is, and I look forward to reading his reporting.

We value our contacts with the Financial Times, and I am always happy to talk to your Asia Editor if I can be of help.

To sucends
