We suggest omitting "Had we wished to do so the Basic Law"; our public position continues to be that we will press the case for more directly elected seats.

We suggest replacing A7 with "what we want to do is to make a clear move forward in 1995.

One way to do that is to increase the number of directly elected seats. Another way is that set out in the Governor's proposals."

We suggest amending "we remain confident ..." in line 7 to "we shall continue our efforts to do so".

As to timing, we would prefer the interview to appear this weekend, not least because Peter Lynch, the SCSMP Editor, is due to interview the Governor next week. We would like to avoid giving him an easy opportunity to compare and contrast the two interviews in the same edition of his paper.
