I know how busy you are but I would greatly appreciate a conversation with you about Hong Kong. As you know, the series of television programmes will not be transmitted before 1997 but I am recording events as they unfold in an attempt to understand the issues at stake.

On this basis, I would be grateful if I could explore with you the development of British policy until now, and your views about the present situation and future prospects.
