MS DIANE FRANCIS' REQUEST TO INTERVIEW THE GOVERNOR

1. I hope you have had a good New Year break and that it will have put you in a good mood for what I have to tell you. After all your efforts to accommodate Ms Francis on 4 February

(for which many thanks), we now learn that she has, in the meantime, rearranged the order of her trip from Hong Kong China Japan to Japan China Hong Kong, in the hope that she may be more likely to catch the Governor at the end of the month.

2. So, would it be possible to find her a slot sometime during the period 12-17 February (inclusive) instead? The arguments in favour of the Governor seeing her if at all possible, which we rehearsed in our telno 57, still of course apply.

We have told Peter Davies in Toronto that he cannot expect to get a reply till early next week. Any chance of giving him good news then?
