As a preliminary step in advance of the formal submission of the World Service's Blue Book, we and the Planners should be grateful to have the views of geographical departments and AUS commands on the BBC's proposals. We should be particularly interested in any areas or activities where you believe that there is scope. for reductions rather than increases in present expenditure on World Service broadcasting. If we are to entertain any of the World Service's new proposals we shall have to agree compensatory savings elsewhere. But equally we should also like to know if there are any new World Service proposals which you strongly support and which you see as making a significant contribution to general or specific policy objectives in the regions concerned.
5. It would be helpful if we could have 'replies as early in the New Year as possible, and not later than 15 January please.
