Many thanks for your faxed letter of 16 August and enclosures.

2. I have not yet met Sir Run Run Shaw and I can quite see that it might be difficult to fix a call on him and during my first encounter to seek to set up the proposed meeting with Sir

I Nigel Mobbs since this is primarily a fund-raising trip. have discussed the matter with Tom Buchanan, British Council. He has met Sir Run Run several times and would in principle be prepared to float the matter with him. Please us know whether you would like him to do so. In many ways, given the Council's links with British universities, the approach by Tom Buchanan would be more natural than one by myself.

3. As a word of caution, you will no doubt by aware that their has been more than one problem between Six Run Run and British universities. He offered money first to London University, but after some internal dispute about where the money should best be used, he apparently withdrew his offer. I believe that he then turned to Oxford University where a very similar problem seems to have occurred. I do not know the oventual outcome. Tom Buchanan understands that Sir Run Run prefers not to get involved in these matters himself and has allocated responsibility for handling dealings with educational institutions to one of his staff, a Mrs Louise Page. likely therefore that, if Sir Nigel Mobbs decides to pursue this, he would be directed towards Mrs Page.
