like to recommend that the proposed allocation of two scholarship places for Hong Kong in 1994/5 goes through; subject to your views, we do not feel we can continue to show support if Hong Kong cannot summon a little more enthusiasm.

If there appears to be scope for candidates this year, and you agree that we should support the proposal for two CBI scholarships for Hong Kong in 1994/5 I think we need to work on the British Chamber of Commerce to make sure that the right people are targeted as efficiently as possible for next year. If not, it will be hard to argue that the CBI should resist the inevitable pressures to drop the scholarship allocations for Hong Kong.
5. We need to respond to the CBI by 25 June. With apologies for the short notice, I would therefore be grateful for your views by 24 June.
