4. Rather than seeking to fund some new bursary/ scholarships scheme for Hong Kong as a replacement for the UK/HK Joint Funding Scheme, CRD's recommendation would be that from 1997 we put an additional £0.25 m (saved from Year 3 of the rundown of fee support) into Peking's annual FCOSAS allocation to fund targetted FCOSAS awards in Hong Kong or wherever else in China our objectives so warrant. In this scenario (and depending on the interest income from the Sir S K Tang Bequest) CRD think it would be reasonable to leave our funding for UK/HK Scholarships at its current level up to 1997
and continuing thereafter (providing there then still exists a Royal HK Jockey Club or some other organisation to put in the necessary matching funds).
5. Again in this scenario China (incuding Hong Kong) would become the major recipient of FCOSAS resources.
