and that therefore they should:

be prepared to provide additional financial support;

put very senior people on the General Committee;

encourage their staff and group companies to participate in our activities.

developing and implementing a PR/communications campaign around the concept of "win win" (i.e. replacing the idea of conflict between British and local identities with a theme such as "British business backing Hong Kong" and stressing the positive aspects of the British business relationship with Hong Kong) and reflecting this theme in as many of our activities as possible;

getting authority figures (e.g. the Governor) to endorse our approach.

In addition to the above, accomplishment of several other tasks outlined in this paper will contribute to overcoming ambivalence/lukewarmness. These include:

being solidly established, soundly funded and actively supported by our members, adding value to members interests and being in touch with their views, and

being an authority on British business in Hong Kong and China.
