How should we accomplish these aims?
1.
Networking
a.
b.
What is needed? The key ingredient of the Chamber's activities is to provide facilities and opportunities for business people to share experiences and views.
How to accomplish? Lunches and cocktails are the favoured fora. These can be better organised to ensure adequate notice for busy dairies and configured so that every opportunity is given for as many people to meet each other as possible in a limited time.
The role of the new office in the British Consular building should assist in being easily identifiable for visiting businessmen, and providing facilities such as a shared Conference Room with the Trade Commission. An informal and informed atmosphere should prevail. Adequate liaison with other U.K. Chambers of Commerce and the Trade Commission must be maintained to ensure visiting businessmen are identified and that they are fed into a system whereby contact can be made should
members so wish.
Relationships should be developed further with other foreign Chambers of Commerce and, in particular, representatives of the Chinese business community to ensure networking opportunities across the whole business scene.
Members of the Exporters Association and other exporters should be contacted to ensure there is adequate representation of companies selling out of, as well as into, Hong Kong and China markets.
2.
Lobbying
a.
What is needed? Mechanisms need to be put in place so that the memberships' views on key issues affecting British business (including political issues) are gathered, clearly expressed as an official position of the Chamber, and then energetically carried to the highest level of authority and/ or widely publicized in a way that effectively achieves the Chamber's desired results.
