with India (despite the fact that we have told the Chinese that it does not contain any Taiwan rights). The root cause of the log jam is the Chinese National Airline, CAAC's desire to use the issue to extract commercial advantage, to the detriment of British carriers (notably Cathay Pacific).

Although it has been tentatively agreed with the Chinese that the next JLG meeting will be in June in Hong Kong, no expert meetings on ASAS have been discussed. It is therefore most unlikely that major progress will be achieved on ASAS in June, although it is just possible that the Chinese may release one of the outstanding ASAS.
