Overseas Trust Bank (Acquisition) (Amendment) Bill 1993

In accordance with Article XXVI of the Royal Instructions, I enclose a copy of the above Bill, which is a Government measure. I also enclose a copy of the principal Ordinance.

The Overseas Trust Bank (Acquisition) Ordinance was enacted in 1985. The Ordinance provided for the acquisition by the Government of the Overseas Trust Bank Limited. Government has recently entered into an agreement to sell the bank and it is necessary to repeal certain parts of the Ordinance.

I would be grateful if you would confirm that the amendment Bill may be proceeded with without further reference to the Secretary of State. As the Government has undertaken to introduce the bill into the Legislative Council as soon as possible, I would be grateful for your early instruction.
