GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT

LOWER ALBERT ROAD

HONG KONG

Dear Mr Secretary General,

Hong Kong has participated actively in the OECD's informal dialogue with the Dynamic Asian Economies (now referred to as the Dynamic Non-Member Economies) since 1989. Through the dialogue, we have come to appreciate the pioneering nature of the work of the OECD Trade Committee.

Given the importance of international trade to Hong Kong, we would like to be able to follow more closely and to participate on a regular basis in the discussions at the Trade Committee of the OECD on trade policy issues. For this reason, the Hong Kong Government would like to apply for observer status on the OECD Trade Committee and its Working Party.

I hope our request for observer status on the OECD Trade Committee and its Working Party will be considered favourably by OECD Members.

Yours sincerely,

Nochen

(T.H. Chau)

Secretary for Trade and Industry
