DEDUCTION OF SALARIES FROM STAFF IN SWD
8.
Present Position
The Social
Work Assistance (SWA) Branch is pressing
the government for a salary structure review.
After the Department informed the SWA Branch in July this year that CSB had rejected its earlier proposals made in 1992. A series of meetings were held between the
Department and the SWA Branch.
The SWA Branch and three grievances: two have been more promotion posts and better training opportunities; the unresolved issue is pay scale.
met
At the meeting held on 20 October, the SWA Branch
announced that it would urge its members to stage a
three-day 'sit-in' from 25 to 27 October.
The 'sit-in' was
held and about 150 out of 430 SWA
staff took part. *
CSB has now agreed that the Department should today
(Wednesday) issue letters to staff members who staged the
'sit-in' from 25 to 27 October to inform them that their
salary will be deducted accordingly under CSR 610 for
non-performance of duty.
Line to Take
We regret that it is necessary to take this action
but it is not reasonable to pay staff if they do not work.
The Social Welfare Department continues to encourage
the SWA Branch to engage in dialogue.
