The Airport
A new airport which will cost about HK$68.50 billion in money of the day (MOD) to be built with ultimate design capacity for over 80 million passengers and up to 9 million tonnes of cargo a year. Scheduled to open in 1997 with 24 hours operation for 35 million passengers and 1.3 million tonnes of cargo.

An Airport Railway to be built by MTRC at an estimated cost of $33.5 billion in MOD. The 34km long high-speed Airport Railway will extend from the new airport via Tsing Yi and West Kowloon to Central. Detailed design underway.
The future Lantau Fixed Crossing comprises Tsing Ma Bridge, Kap Shui Mun Bridge and Ma Wan Viaduct. The Tsing Ma Bridge will have one of the longest main spans in the world carrying both road and rail transport. Construction work commenced in mid 1992 and completion is planned for mid-1997. Contract for the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and Ma Wan Viaduct was awarded in November 1992 for completion by 1997.
$8.9 billion Route 3 to link West Kowloon and Tsing Yi via Kwai Chung with connection to Lantau via the Lantau Fixed Crossing. Completion by 1996/97.
$8.1 billion North Lantau Expressway, a 13km dual-three lane highway at North Lantau linking the new airport and the Tsing Ma Bridge, construction in three sections. The first (Tai Ho) section started work in June 1992, the second (Yam O) section started work in September 1992. The whole expressway will open in 1996.
$3.4 billion West Kowloon Expressway to link West Kowloon and Western Harbour Crossing via West Kowloon reclamation. Completion by 1996/97.
