Dear Mr. Woo,
VISIT BY THE GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG TO GERMANY
ON 14 15 NOVEMBER 1993
1. Somewhile ago I discussed with George Oleksyn the possibility of the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany working together with yourselves over the programme for the Governor's visit in November. I understand that the centrepiece would be a trade and investment promotion seminar at the Frankfurter Hof on 15 November. You are also planning a bankers' dinner for the evening of Sunday 14 November.
2. I wonder whether the following proposal might appeal to the Governor. The dinner on Sunday evening could be a joint venture hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany
(BCCG) Rhine-Main Group, and a leading German bank. For a variety of reasons the best host might be the Dresdner Bank. They recently hosted a very successful function for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. The Rhine-Main Group of the BCCG meanwhile has considerable success in mounting top quality functions. For example, in February together with the DG Bank, a seminar for the two future central bank governors, George and Hans Tietmeyer. The idea would be to invite about 40 people, the guest list being worked out between us, you and of course, the Dresdner Bank. The bankers whom you already
Eddie
have in mind would be included. The BCCG (I am a member of the Committee) would be able to provide added value in the shape of leading personalities from commerce, industry, politics, and, perhaps the media. The Dresdner Bank would invite company chairmen with interests in the Far East.
3.
Even on a Sunday evening, I would expect very great interest in the Governor's visit. By working together, we should be able to arrange for an excellent dinner involving influential people. If this idea appeals, please let me know, and we can discuss the detail first. Please let me know also if, as when Lord Wilson came here in 1992, you would like me
