VISIT TO LONDON BY GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG: 5-9 APRIL

1.

Mr Patten will be making an official visit to London from

5 to 9 April, after which he intends to spend a few days in the UK on private business. The Governor has requested calls

on Mr Goodlad, the Secretary of State and the Prime Minister.

Given the Secretary of State's engagements overseas, a call will obviously not be possible during the Governor's official

visit. If the Secretary of State wishes, we could explore the possibility of a meeting after Easter.

2. I submit a draft PS No 10 letter requesting a call on the

Prime Minister.
