I received your recent letter underscoring the
crucial nature of the next few weeks for negotiations
on Hong Kong and requesting that we weigh in with the
Chinese in Seattle. I am leaving tomorrow for
Seattle and will carry your ideas along with me. We
will try to be of assistance on the Hong Kong issue
during our conversations with Chinese leaders in
Seattle. I will be back in touch after I return.
