A delegation of the CPA UK Branch visited Hong Kong 9-13 August 1993. The delegation comprised:
Sir Anthony Durant MP (Leader)
Lord Beaumont of Whitley
Mr Terry Dicks MP
Mr John Garrett MP
Mr Eric Pickles MP
Mr John Prescott MP
Mr Andrew Pearson (Secretary)
Information gleaned on the visit is so topical that this report is being rendered as early as possible, with the aim of arranging for members of the delegation to meet Rt Hon. Chris Patten, Governor of Hong Kong, at the earliest opportunity.
INTRODUCTION
In addition to a 21⁄2 day briefing programme arranged by the Hong Kong Government the opportunity was taken to arrange for the delegation to meet a number of other people so as to gain as full a picture as possible of the territory in mid 1993. The following report attempts to summarise the visit, which occupied four full working days.
HONG KONG AND BRITISH GOVERNMENT BRIEFINGS
Mr Peter Lai - Constitutional Matters. An excellent introduction to Hong Kong, its relations with Britain and China, and current issues.
Mr Gordon Siu - Hong Kong's Economy. A useful and lucid brief.
Mrs Regina Ip - Trade and Industry. Comprehensive and well-informed.
