COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION (CPA): UK BRANCH VISIT TO HONG KONG, 9 - 13 AUGUST 1993

I write to give you advance notice that six members of the UK Branch of the CPA will be visiting Hong Kong from 9 13 August. They have been offered a two day briefing arranged through the Hong Kong government office here. delegates will be chosen by the Speaker's Selection Committee on 15 June and I will let you know their names as soon as possible. They will be travelling on to New Zealand, where they will spend ten days as guests of the New Zealand CPA Branch.

2. Unclassified background briefing on Hong Kong will be provided for the delegates by HKD in written and oral form, the latter allowing any questions arising from the written material to be answered.

Neither the FCO or its posts have any formal responsibility for the delegation as, in this case, they will be guests of the Hong Kong government. However, it is usual for a senior member of post (often the Head of post personally), to meet the delegation and to offer to brief them informally. I therefore enclose guidelines which you may find useful in preparing for the visit.

4.

I have also informed Government House about this visit and have sent Edward Llewellyn a copy of the guidelines, in case he or the Governor wish to be involved.
