Nga Yan in Ta Kung Pao

People who burned the BL and called for a run on Chinese banks should not be regarded as supporting the BI. It is irrational for Mr Patten to say that one's actions in the past cannot be taken as an objective criterion for riding the through train.

HKMAO Director Lu Ping

Anti-China elements will not be able to ride the through train as they will definitely not be able to meet the requirements of the BL and NPC resolution. Besides, the through train is matter of China's sovereign rights. The British-HK authorities and their judicial organisations before 1997 have no say in

it.

Who can ride the through train and who cannot and whether there should be a set of objective criteria are matters solely for the SARPC to decide.

19.7.93

Xiao Keiyun, mainland

convenor of the political sub- group of the SARPC PKC

Legislators elected in 1995 must go through certain confirmation procedures before they can board the through train because there is a need to realise China's sovereignty. Merely pledging allegiance to the Chinese Government is not sufficient for legislators to board the through train. Their "performance" should also be taken into account.
