Amendments to Letters Patent and Royal Instructions

Composition of Legislative Council in 1995

General Statement

Purpose

(a)

These instructions are to seek to provide for:

increase the number of elected members of the

Legislative Council (LegCo) to 60 in 1995, with:

(i)

20 members returned by geographical constituencies (GCs);

(ii)

30

members

returned by functional

constituencies (FCs); and

(iii)

10 members returned

committee (EC); and

by an election

(b)

abolish all appointed and ex-officio seats in

LegCo in 1995; and

(c)

the

right of electors in FCs or in the EC to also

vote in the GC elections to the LegCo.
