une British side make a specific approach to the

Chinese side asking for talks?

A28

We have repeatedly made clear

publicly and through

diplomatic channels - that we are willing to discuss

the 1994/95 elections with the Chinese side. We

still hope that talks will get underway.

Q29

Would you brief LegCo Members at all during any

talks?

A29

We would keep in regular touch with members of LegCo as we always do; but details of the discussions

would need to remain confidential.

Any

understanding reached would be put to Legco.

Q30

Have you briefed Martin Lee?

A30

As you will notice, I am briefing all LegCo Members.

We will continue to keep in regular touch with

Members of this Council, collectively and

individually, as is our normal practice.

Q31

Will subsequent rounds of talks be announced?

A31

If there are subsequent rounds of talks we will

certainly insist that they be announced.
