The Clerk has just informed us that pressure from the Government Whips means that three Conservative members will have to return early from this visit. They are Sumberg, Harris and one other (name to follow when known), who will return to London directly after the Hong Kong Leg of the visit is completed.

This change therefore only affects the Taiwan programme. Grateful if Taipei could cancel the hotel rooms and inform the authorities as

appropriate.
