FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE (FAC): PROPOSED INQUIRY INTO HONG KONG
1. PS/Mr Goodlad's minute of 3 February (copy attached).
2. During a conversation this morning with the FAC Clerk, she mentioned that the Committee were probably looking to visit the Far East for two weeks in October (possibly during the last week of the summer recess and the first week of the new session). Indications were that they would spend about a week in Hong Kong (where they would be able to take formal evidence), and also visit Beijing. She also mentioned the possibility of including a visit to Japan.
3. I do not know how much of this is firm Committee thinking, but I pass it on for what it is worth.
