We also had positive discussions on the airport (the

project Chinese gave agreement to a further large contract) and on

speeding up the technical work in the Joint Liaison Group. We will be pressing to ensure that this is translated into practical progress.

Also had wide-ranging discussion with the Foreign Minister

on international issues and raised Human Rights/Tibet.

The Chinese President gave me a rambling account of the

Chinese economy, admitting difficulty but emphasising that

economic reform would continue.
