PROPOSED ENQUIRY INTO HONG KONG BY THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE (FAC)

/ 1. The Minister has seen Ms Saunders' submission of

2 February. He agrees that an FAC visit to Hong Kong in June is unlikely to be helpful and that an Autumn visit would be preferable. He intends to seek an opportunity to discuss this in private with the FAC Chairman, partly with a view to ascertaining whether the idea of a June visit is being driven by the Committee members or by their clerk.
