The Minister has seen Mr Thomson's minute of 26 February to the Private Secretary.

Following discussions with Sir John Coles and the Chief Clerk, I can confirm that there are no subjects within

Mr Goodlad's area of responsibility on which we would wish to inspire a full-day debate. The only current issue which might sustain such a debate is Hong Kong: but a debate on Hong Kong at this juncture is likely to be unhelpful to us.
