FCO RELATIONS WITH PARLIAMENT

1.

In the present financial climate it is more important than ever that the FCO seeks to improve its relations with Parliament and therefore Mr Lennox-Boyd has been considering ways of increasing contacts between MPs and FCO officials.

2. He has decided to host a series of monthly buffet lunches in the House of Commons to bring together small groups of MPs and Heads of Department. Each will involve some 8 MPs (from all parties) and 6 Heads of Department, as well as the Minister and Dick Thomson (Head of PRU).

3. The first lunch will be held early in May and Mr Thomson will be in touch with some of the Heads of Department from the attached list. Mr Lennox-Boyd appreciates the heavy demands on Heads of Department but he would be grateful if those contacted by PRU could give these lunches priority. He hopes that these contacts will prove interesting and valuable for all concerned.
