acarave I gather that you and John Coles had a talk about the final chapter of your memoirs and David Gillmore has now sent me the version, which you enclosed with your letter of 13 December to the Foreign office.

I am afraid that in its amended form it will be unhelpful to the Governor and the British Government in their delicate task. I greatly regret the fact that someone so recently involved in these matters should have this effect on the efforts of those now responsible. But the contents of the revised chapter mainly refer to events since you left office, and I take the view that the Radcliffe rules do not give me grounds for objecting to them.

I am copying this letter to David Gillmore.
