Many thanks for your letter of 4 January, which I found awaiting me on return from a (very enjoyable) holiday in Mexico.
On your literary matter, I have had a word with David Gillmore, and we have agreed that it would be
it would be best for you to send your manuscript to him in the first instance, especially since the subject matter will fall most directly to the FCO. But I should be grateful if you could simultaneously send a copy to me. (Alternatively, we could photocopy if you lack facilities.) The only other relevant procedures are the guidelines recommended by the Radcliffe Committee, which the FCO and we would anyway apply in looking at the text. I enclose a copy of the Radcliffe White Paper and refer you particularly to the section on Memoirs by Former Officials.
I am copying this letter to David Gillmore, drawing his attention to your wish not to have any publicity given to the fact that you are so writing.
