'briefly' in the penultimate paragraph is removed. The sentence now

reads: 'The policy they embody, that of co-operatiom with China in

the interests of Hong Kong, has itself come under increasing

question, so much So that in very recent times another course

altogether has been attempted. In the second, on page 339 I shall

probably have to delete the reference to negotiations on the airport continuing.

Could I ask for your comments by 13 December? I realise that this

is a terribly tight timetable and that you have many more important

things to do on the subject of Hong Kong, not to speak of other

matters. But I have to deliver the corrected proofs to the printers

later in the same week. I have not yet had sight of them. I am also

committed to submit a revision of the text to you. All I can say is

that this is positively the last round.
